Korean Movie Night: Scandal Makers 과속스캔들 (2008) Korean

Cha Tae Hyun, Park Bo Young, Wang Seok Hyeon, Im Ji Kyu, Hwang Woo Seul Hye

Movie rating: 8/10     Neck score: A

I can't believe I ignored this one because the name sounded weird for so long!  It was so good!  It took me looking up something random and noticing who was in it.  I think I was looking up something up about Cha Tae Hyun and then I noticed that he was in this movie, and then I saw that Park Bo Young was also in it, and I got super excited to watch it and maybe watched clips of it on YouTube before even telling Lizabreff and Curdy that we needed to watch it.  It's so funny!  Naturally everyone did a great job, because I loved all the actors in it.

So it's about a celebrity in his 30s who finds out he has a kid in her 20s who has a 6 year old kid.  So overnight he becomes a 35 year old grandfather.  It's all about him growing up and them becoming a family, as well as following dreams, and generally becoming better people.  That kid is also adorable.  I loved his grin as he greeted people which then was abruptly wiped to a straight face when the greeting was done.  Every time.  It was wonderful.

It was just a great movie, although somewhat predictable, like most movies of this genre are.  You know they are probably going to be a happy family by the end, choosing family over fame or whatever, so it's more about the journey than a surprise.  It was really good.  It was edited really clever to make it funnier, especially in the time lapse montage scenes.  They were just all really good at bringing out the humor of the script really well, so that we could get all the right emotions through out the show.  I really liked it.  It was great for a cute and funny family movie.

How Healer and Other Kdramas Ruined The Dark Knight for Me

So I have this weird tradition of watching a Batman movie every Valentines Day.  It just started one V-Day when I was bored, long before I discovered K-dramas, and I just continued it.  However, I don't know if this tradition will last.  I don't know, maybe I'll watch Batman: The Movie next year... haha.

This year, because Lizabreff had never seen it, we watched The Dark Knight.  I'm still not sure why she hadn't but she should have just watched it in 2008 when it was cool, because it was a lot sillier than I remembered it, and it's supposed to be the "darkest" one.  Go figure.

Fated to Love: Cun Xi vs. Lee Gun

This post had to be written for two men that I love for very different reasons.  Having recently finally finished watching the Korean version of Fated to Love You, I have to talk about it.  I think it's one of my favorite dramas, and might have one of the highest ratings on my drama review page.  Anyways... here it is Cun Xi vs. Lee Gun!

Ong Bak 2 องค์บาก 2 (2008) Thai

Tony Jaa, Nirut Sirichanya, Sorapong Chatree, Sarunyoo Wongkrachang

Movie rating: 7/10     Neck score: A

Muay Thai and Kung Fu equals awesome.  While it's a little hard to follow, maybe because I was attempting to multitask at the time because I was so busy, if you pay attention it's not too bad.  Also it has a cliff hanger ending that makes you think that he dies, but there is an Ong Bak 3, which I haven't gotten around to yet, so you just need to watch both.  But the fights are so good in this one.  He wrestles a crocodile at one point, which is scary and cool.  And Tony Jaa just knows so many different styles of martial arts.  Also, he's not bad to look at at all.  So the hardest parts to understand are the weird parts with like magic or something creepy that I just don't get yet.  But, like I said, I had to multitask, which doesn't really work with shows that have subtitles, so I will probably watch this again before I watch the sequel, because it's worth it.

91. Fated to Love You 命中注定我愛你 (2008) Taiwanese

Ethan Ruan, Chen Qiao En, Baron Chen, Bianca Bai

Drama Rating: 6.5/10     Neck Score: A

This drama drew me in, as ridiculous as it was.  It kept on throwing ridiculousness in, so much for this couple to go through, some of it highly unlikely, but still so good.  I think the chemistry between the  leads was probably the thing that made it work so well.  A walked over "Sticky Note Girl" and a hot tempered (typically a pushover in love) CEO of a soap company have an "accidental" one night stand and end up having to get married.  That one night stand part was the most ridiculous part, and way too long, but get passed that (fast forward is my recommendation) and it gets way better.  Cun Xi (Ethan Ruan) is so adorable when he is doing what he wants (i.e. loving and protecting his wife) and so very annoying when he is chasing after Anna and yelling every two minutes when he thinks he's being pushed into anything.  It's one of those shows where I was like "why do I love this show so much?"  But I just did.  There is a catchy OST and some good hair (Dylan).  Ethan Ruan is a very attractive man too, so when he's being charming we all swooned.  I will be interested to see where the Korean remake takes this.
