314. Oh My General 将军在上 (2017) Chinese

Ma Sichun, Sheng Yilun, Ding Chuan, Wang Churan

Drama Rating: 6/10     Neck Score: A+

Starting this one was another case of Curdy and I trying to find a drama to watch while Lizabreff was busy. Just like The Love Knot, we took three tries before we actually found the C-Drama we wanted to watch. It was also a random choice that we hadn't really ever considered, since it was older and looked silly if just scrolling passed. Now that I have seen the show though, I seriously love this poster. But after not being able to handle the first two,  at the though of a strong female general winning herself a trophy husband and then having to get them to fall in love, yeah. It sounded perfect. And it was.

If there is anything that makes this show not perfect is that it spends too much time on the side characters and court politics. I absolutely hated her cousin, and she had way too much screen time once she was introduced. We were also so done with the villains plotting. We were at the point where if we saw the freaking prime minister and tutor Liu sitting and talking about their plots one more time, so help me...

Enough of you! I've had it with your stupid talks in your dumb diddly bopper hats!

So, there were some times when we struggled with the politics. Especially when the king was having consort troubles, and his evil brother's wife was getting all these wives to poison people for no reason. It was really just too much. But that was all made up on the fact that the OTP was the best ever. Naturally they had a rocky start. He obviously resented being a trophy husband to an unladylike general. But his growth was just the best. He went from being a whiny little man child to a wife fanboy who is like the classy brains of one of the best power couples of all time. They single-handledly took down the corruption in the government. Well, maybe they had some help from Huli and others, but, you know. They were the ones who mostly did it. Best power couple ever. I shipped them so hard.

Huli! We loved Huli. Obviously we were completely team Junwang and General, but Huli was our favorite other boy. We'd always scream out: Huli! whenever he was on the screen. He won our hearts with his drunken poetry when he lost his true love (The General) to marriage at the beginning. But the great thing is that he never hated Junwang or resented. He was such a good second male lead. All we wanted the whole time was for him to get a woman. We just wanted our warrior poet to be happy. We literally would try to plan him getting together with every worthy woman (which didn't include the cousin, we hated her).

Can I just say that I have a thing for those top knot ponytails? They are so sexy! Every time Junwang had a ponytail it was just the best. He was so sexy. Huli was pretty good with the ponies, but not quite as attractive as Junwang. He was just soooooo sexy. I actually loved it when the general wore her hair like that. She always had a more manly way of dressing that was awesome. She was almost more manly than Junwang, which is why they were just such a good couple, with a good balance. Basically, it was a bit too long, because I could have done without every scene that our couple or Huli weren't in. But they were awesome enough that they kind of made up for it.

The very hardest parts to watch were actually any scene that had the king of Western Xia. That lech was just a gross douch. I could have done without every single seduction/rape/almost rape scene that he was in, which was almost every single scene he was in. By the end of the show Boyband was almost the best person in Western Xia, because at least he wasn't lusting after women. He just wanted to take over Song. The cousin's womanly wiles never worked on him, and I kind of love that he hated her too. Of course he was still evil and only his little sister was worth anything. Anyway, that was also hard to watch, so it's a hard thing to judge. those 6 points are completely for the OTP and Huli. Everything else was... well... too much. But I loved that power couple.
