301. My Husband, Oh Jak Doo 데릴남편 오작두 (2018) Korean

Uee, Kim Kang Woo, Jung Sang Hoon, Han Sun Hwa

Drama Rating: 8/10     Neck Score: A+

I would say that this restored my faith in a good romantic comedy, but I can't say that without saying that it also has a murderer in it, so that's pretty consistent with the current romcom trends. However, it will restore your faith in good men who don't play stupid games and are super honest about their feelings. Jak Doo never messes with her feelings and is just the best man ever! He doesn't get bogged down with stupid first loves either, but it just so pure and perfect!

So yeah, it does have a murderer in it, but it's not about that. That is more a catalyst to getting the situation set up. She needs a husband to protect her from her trauma of her house being turned into a murder scene. Who wouldn't? She meets Jak Doo while looking for the heir of the legendary gayageum maker. Jak Doo is a country bumpkin who looks ridiculously sexy with a mustache in all those ahjussi flannel shirts and vests. He looks even sexier after he gets a haircut, but dang I still liked him with that mustache. Which is weird, because mustaches are ew, but it was just part of him!

So, yeah, the murder isn't the plot. The plot is Jak Doo in Seoul being a fake husband to PD Seung Joo as she tries to make a documentary about Oh Hyuk, the gayageum maker, for Eric Jo, the son of a gayageum business man. She also has to deal with sseureggi bosses who try to blame her for everything. She also has to find said gayageum maker, all the while she is solving a murder, keeping herself from getting murdered, trying to figure out why she is almost getting murdered, and keeping her family from falling apart. So it really is about the gayageum documentary. Really. It's a family drama, a lot happens.

I do have to say that while I didn't love everyone in it. I hated her mother, for instance, I never hated the second leads. Eric Jo Bong Shik was probably one of my favorite characters ever. He used the most hilarious English (always reminding me of a Shahrukh Khan character), and was so great in his crush on Seung Joo. His face every time he saw her was just beautiful. He was a good second male lead. I especially loved his bromance with Jak Doo. The second female lead, the first love world famous gayageum player, wasn't too bad either. She was a bit annoying a times, but she always kept it classy.

I absolutely loved the three halmoni with their constant bickering. Their random fights with Seung Joo's mom. Their devotion to Jak Doo and matching making skills. People I hated. Seung Joo's mom, little brother (at times), PD Hong, Seung Joo's friend's husband's little sister, and random other people who were stupid at times. That seems like a lot, but there was so much wonderfulness with Seung Joo and Jak Doo that we could get over those people. They got less screen time. But Jak Doo's forearms alone are enough to make us forget them. Especially when he rolls them sleeves up and is working with wood or something. Or just working. He rocks the bumpkin clothes. He rocks the suits. He is just one sexy man. Rawr!

There were some draggy times, like when they would fight because they are trying to protect each other, because they tried to be noble idiots and the other one would get mad at them. But they could never be parted for very long. They were literally drawn to each other like magnets. The freaking electricity of their attraction. They had awesome chemistry. Even them doing mundane things together was just the cutest. They also would talk about things... eventually. They wouldn't let misunderstandings stay. They wouldn't believe each other if they lied anyway. They just knew each other so well. Definitely an OTP to go down in history. It was beautiful and I loved it. Jak Doo-yah!
