Drama Rating: 2/10 Neck Score: B
When we finished Radio Romance and we only had this one left in terms of less good dramas, we all assured ourselves that this one would be much easier to finish... You might have then noticed that Radio Romance was scored a 3, while this one is merely a 2. That's right, this was awful. It was always a little bit off in the fact that while I'm a fan of Lee Jong Hyun, he's not a great actor, and this was definitely testing him too much. Because when you're not amazing, bad writing and directing will just do you in. In fact, I should say that all 2 of those points exist because of Beautiful Beautiful Man (Heo Jeong Min). He is the best person alive, and single-handly saved us from dying by his sheer presence in this drama. I hope they paid him well for wasting his talents so. Does OCN Romance own him and Choi Dae Chul? Why do they keep appearing in these not good OCN romance dramas??? Ahem.
At first, this drama was just awkward. We picked it for our girl's night with my sister, and then we found ourselves watching it less and less. She absolutely hated him. I think it was mostly due to his unfortunate fake smile and how he treated his hyung (don't dis the only good character in the show! I'm talking about you, Beautiful Beautiful Man!). But soon she started dreading our girl's nights, so we decided to start a new one and we finished this one without her. Then it continued ok, it was steadily getting worse in the not making sense/cheese factor. I thought things were going to get better when they started dating, but no. They were so cringy. I've never been grossed out by a main couple before, but I was gagging at their syrup. Blah. And the second male lead disappeared. Like, who was that guy? Idk.
This was the face that my sister grew to hate. |
Like, why are you encouraging "Mr. Stupidface's" behavior, Grandpa? Hyung is legit in trouble, dude! |

But we did pick a new drama, and it was a good thing. Because it turned from a romcom into a horror flick, with the sudden revaluation that the magic pollen tree that allows this family to play cupid, will destroy the person the successor loves if they ever ingest the pollen. So, yeah. The demon tree is now demanding sacrifice. This could have been a much better drama if they had let us know that this was a curse sooner. Like, they might have said something about it earlier, but I didn't catch it. But if they did then they didn't do it good, because I didn't catch it. We knew that it was bad if they didn't do things, but we didn't know that it was a curse that they were perpetuating and that the tree was a demon that demanded human blood. We literally found out it was a curse in the last episode... finally.
Then, we have the worst wrap up in forever. The last two episodes were soooooo boring! They were the mopiest crap in the world! It was so painful. We had to force our way through it. I had to live text my sister how painful it was so she could feel for me and rejoice that she got out of a bad drama. She was dumbfounded that we forced ourselves, but hey, I'm a finisher and I like to drag Curdy and Lizabreff down with me. It was the worst. After like 4 episodes of mope, they finished off with some amnesia and nothing making sense or really being resolved. It was just lame and the worst!
So when a drama leaves you with conversations like the one above, or moaning as it limps through a swamp of mope to a lame finish, its not worth it. Even with all the light jogs to the rescue, gentle moob cupping as he strokes his demon tree tattoo, and all the Beautiful Beautiful Man screen time- and I guess ridiculous side plots that we don't even care about (like why was Choi Dae Chul in this at all? His side couple plot was awkward and had no purpose or value)- it was just blah and steadily got worse until we just lay there, numb, multitasking until it was painfully over. The end. Not. Worth. It. Ouch.
