286. Witch's Court 마녀의 법정 (2017) Korean

Jung Ryeo Won, Yoon Hyun Min, Jeon Kwang Leol, Kim Yeo Jin

Drama Rating: 9/10     Neck Score: A+++

We finally watched it! And I'm so glad we did! We started watching it around the time it came out as our girls night with my sister, however the first two episodes proved more than we wanted her kids to see, so we had to choose a different one for that. (We ended up watching Two Cops). So as soon as we finished one of the other dramas we were already watching we started again, and it was amazing.

I love it because it is about her and it stayed about her. In fact while they had a good partnership, Fish Bangs (Yoon Hyun Min) had more of the role that the female leads usually get, the "Man Candy" if you will. I loved their relationship. They were so good for each other. The writing was so strong from start to finish. It was full of wonderful character development, especially for Ma Yi Deum, our wonderful leading lady. Jung Ryeo Won did amazing in it. She deserves all the awards!

Ma Yi Deum is one of the best characters ever because she is so deliciously flawed. She has learned to be very competitive and selfish as she has raised herself after her mom went missing so many years ago. She became a prosecutor to look for her mom. She has no concept of that whole empathy thing, but she does win almost every case. That doesn't work so well in the Crimes Against Women and Children department, where empathy is just as important as winning. So we to go with her on her journey. That is what the first like 6 episodes deal with, her growing in the assortment of cases, which represent well the different messy and complicated facets of sexual assault and rape, and that sort of thing. It showed how easy it is to misinterpret a situation from child abuse/molestation to date rape, to prostitution, etc. All through these different messy situations we get to grow along side Yi Deum as well. It's great and a bit painful, but great.

I also love that while we get to see the development, she never really changes who she is. She'll always be Ma Yi Deum with her special brand of swag. That's also what makes the relationship between her and Fish Bangs so great. I love that he is a psychiatrist turned prosecutor, and the best man in the whole world. What a sensitive, passionate, hard working man! He is so gentle and hard working, and cares about his clients and her. He can see through her crap but also loves her in all her messiness. That doesn't mean he doesn't want her to improve, obviously he does and is a great help in that, but he also likes her unique and strong ways. They make such a good team. I would get so happy I would cry when they were being the perfect team, a power couple. Yes! Be powerful together! They were so sexy when they worked together! Woot!

While the villain was one of the worst villains of all time, the rest of the cast was so solid and good. And having the villain being that hateful really made the ending satisfying. Although it also made us rage scream a lot, because he was so powerful and so wholly unrepentant. He didn't care who he stepped on, betrayed or killed if it helped him. He was total scum. The worst. It was fun to hate on him. It was also great to see Ma Yi Deum hate on him and get her sweet, sweet justice. The ending made me so happy, totally a great solid finish! Yeah, that's the way a good drama wraps up. If time jumps are needed, it's for practical purposes only, not for over hyped drama.

I think you can probably tell that I liked it, right?
