324. Ghost Detective 오늘의 탐정 (2018) Korean

Choi Daniel, Park Eun Bin, Lee Ji Ah, Kim Won Hae, Lee Jae Kyoon, Lee Joo Young

Drama Rating: 6/10     Neck Score: A+

This one started out so good. It was actually creepy, it was intriguing, and then something happened that made it take a gradual nose dive. It never got horrible, but it did get way less good. The creepiness left and it became a normal paranormal crime show, and it got super draggy. You could save it lost its direction or drive. Which was sad. But, it did stay fairly consistent with some things.

Choi Daniel stayed looking fine the whole time. His look in this show really worked for him. Also, to make us less bored during the draggy times the dressed him in a suit without a tie and the collar unbuttoned. Um, yes please.

The characters themselves stayed pretty consistent. There was a bit of "no I'll die to save you" "no, me!" etc. that was annoying, but it wasn't super unrealistic for any of the characters. At least they established that noble idiocy early on. People stayed spunky or annoying, or fun the whole time, so that was ok.

But, there were so many obvious holes. The inconsistencies of the ghost powers. They were just coming up with crap as they went and then just explaining it on the fly. "We want him to be able to do this" "ok, then we'd better make another visit to that tunnel to talk to the spirit mom/host again." New power is then explained. How did they always have time to visit there when people were almost dying all the time? IDK, it's a cheap cop out. Then they made the evil ghost lady super OP, to the point where it was unrealistic. "It's fine, she just got so powerful killing people and absorbing their anger." Sure, she did. Right....

The part that really did me in the most was the ending. It was very slap dash, and then, for me, it kind of undid everything it did. "We can't end it any other way, cuz, you know, he's dead, but we don't want a sad ending either so.... ridiculous loophole." Yeah, it was less than good. It was blah.

So while I really loved it in the first like 6 episodes, and then it took a crazy turn, got lost, limped and dragged to the finish line and then went "welp, I guess we're finished" and tied some crazy knots at the end to make sure nothing was loose or straggling. So if it has stayed as good as it started it would have been an 8 or 9 (even though it creeped me out and made me have to go to my happy place after watching it so I could actually go to sleep afterwards- why did I watch it late and alone?) but the second half and ending probably deserved more of a 4 or 5, so I averaged it to a 6. It was ok, but more on the meh side.
